Can I install an EV charger wall box outside?

Yes. Most EVs and PHEVs come with a bundled wallbox charger, and these units are designed for outdoor installation provided they are weather‑rated (IP54 or higher) and mounted securely. It’s good practice to have a charger canopy installed for extra protection. Illustration below …

How long does it take to install an EV Charger at home?

From EVCI.tech’s experience, a typical installation takes around 5–7 hours. The cable run from the distribution board (DB) to the wallbox often accounts for 60–70% of the total time. Unless the charger is mounted directly next to the electrical board, you should expect a full day’s work for a compliant, neat installation.

Can my house supply enough power for an EV charger?

It depends — but usually yes, for a typical home with one geyser, oven, and washing machine. At EVCI.tech, we use a clamp meter to measure your household load during morning, afternoon, and evening periods. This assessment determines the best way to introduce a charger safely. If supply is tight, there are several mitigation options: reducing the charger output from 7 kW to 3.6 kW, or temporarily dropping the geyser load while charging. With minor lifestyle adjustments, most homes can comfortably support an EV charger installation.
